Barcode Software Installation Checklist

A barcode system depends on clean product data, compatible devices and a realistic checkout rehearsal. Prepare these together.

Clean product and barcode data

Check duplicate and empty barcodes, recognisable product names, units, tax and sale prices. For packs, cases and individual units, document barcode and inventory multipliers. Remove inactive products from the live selection.

  • Duplicate and missing barcodes
  • Units and prices
  • Pack and case multipliers

Test real device transactions

Scan actual labels, print the selected label size and read a barcode generated by the scale. A device appearing in Windows is not sufficient: verify that the correct product and quantity reach the sales line.

  • USB or network connection
  • Scanner terminator
  • Label size and darkness
  • Scale code and weight digits

Rehearse the switch to live operation

Agree the date of opening stock, when the old system becomes read-only and who supports the first day. Test sales, returns, cancellations, held baskets, price changes, counts and interruptions with cashiers. Record a backup and rollback plan.

  • User and till permissions
  • Cash-card split payment
  • Returns and cancellations
  • Shift close and restore plan
